Saving Seed, Planting Bulbs & Planning Ahead

The Flower Gardener’s Series

As the season begins to slow, the garden offers a chance to reflect and prepare for the year ahead. In this final class we’ll look at how to collect and store seed from favourite varieties, and how to evaluate what worked well in the garden over the season.

We’ll walk through the beds together, identifying plants that are good candidates for seed saving and discussing simple techniques for drying and storing seed successfully. We’ll also talk about preparing beds for winter and making notes for next year’s planting plans.

We’ll talk about ordering seeds and bulbs for next year, and getting overwintered flowers like tulips and ranunculus planted for early blooms in the spring.

This session offers a gentle close to the season — a chance to look back on the garden and begin imagining the next one.
