About us

Our story

We’re a small family farm, growing organic produce and flowers on Salt Spring Island. Over the past 15 years, Molly Wilson and Zack Hemstreet have developed a vibrant and multi-faceted farm business, sustained by a strong community of customers and supporters. We didn’t come from farming families, and learned along the way from incredible mentors and teachers - we’re still learning all the time.

Molly was drawn to farming through farm camps and schools, first as a child, then as a teenager and young adult working with kids. The sense of place, community, and purpose that comes from engaging with food and landscape is the inspiration behind the farm’s educational offerings.

Zack first caught the farming bug in the Mad River Valley of Vermont, where he was studying Sustainable Design. While managing the garden at the Yestermorrow School of Design/Build (where we met!), he fell in love with growing food and the problem-solving and diverse skill set required every day.

Both of us love to grow things, to learn, and to work together. We’re passionate about life-long learning and balancing purposeful work with play. We have two kids, and invite many more onto the farm through field trips, summer camp, and workshops - when we see kids feeling at home here, we know we’re on the right track.

It’s been a rich and rewarding labour of love to build the farm to where it is now. Along the way, we’ve been supported, inspired, and challenged to be our best by countless human beings, from farm staff to customers to friends and family. We consider the farm as a part of the larger community, and factor that value into every decision we make.

This farm has been built and nurtured by countless hands and hearts. We’re grateful to the family, friends, and farmers that have added their wisdom, laughter, sweat, and tears - you are the story!
